Joanne Turner is both an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Exercise Physiologist, with a Master of Science degree in nutrition, dietetics and exercise rehabilitation, from the University of Wollongong. Joanne is an Accredited Sports Dietitian, trained as a sports nutrition at the Australian Institute of Sport and has worked with national and state sporting teams and some of Australia’s top athletes. Joanne has been the official sports dietitian to the Cronulla Sharks NRL, Parramatta Eels NRL, Golf NSW, Golf Australia, Tennis Australia, Swimming NSW, Cricket NSW Blues and Breakers, and is a NSW Institute of Sport Accredited Nutrition Service Provider. 

Joanne is a mother of 3 and has additional qualifications in paediatric nutrition and is very passionate about promoting the importance of a healthy lifestyle for kids. 

Joanne has grown up in the kitchen and loves sharing her extensive knowledge of nutrition and her culinary skills in her healthy cooking classes. Joanne has published hundreds of receipes in her cook books as well as multiple years as the consultant dietitian to Pacific Magazines – Diabetic living magazine as well as writing articles and recipes for multiple other magazines. Emma Rita BND (Honours) (Deans Scholar) APD
Accredited Practising Dietitian

Emma is a member of the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) and is an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD). Emma has a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (Honours) and was awarded a Dea’ns Scholar from the University of Wollongong.

Emma is passionate about supporting her patients to achieve their dietary goals. She translates the latest research into understandable and practical nutrition, and takes a fresh and innovative approach to empower people to set personal goals. Emma is enthusiastic in providing her patients with the knowledge they need to sustain their goals, while supporting and motivating them along their journey.

Emma loves to cook and teach practical nutrition in the many fabulous cooking classes here at NuActive Health. Emma’s experience includes a variety of clinical and community based positions. Emma has experience in the nutritional management of diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. Other interests include paediatric nutrition and nutritional management of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Angela Webster BPsych MAPS
Registered Psychologist

Angela has been a registered Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) since 2010 and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). She completed her Bachelor in Psychology in South America in The Pontifical Xavierian University; her qualifications were assessed and approved by The Australian Psychological Society, Angela speaks fluent English and Spanish.

Angela is an experienced Psychologist with a broad background in areas including: mental health, substance abuse, crisis intervention and organisational psychology. Angela has experience working in a wide range of settings including educational, community and corporate.

Angela has a very caring nature with a genuine desire to help. Angela strongly believes in building an empathetic and mutually respectful relationship with all her clients. She has a client centred, task focused approach that is uniquely tailored to the individual needs of each client and approaches her work with enthusiasm and energy. 

Angela has a passion for strength based and values driven therapy and practices within evidence based frameworks including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focus Therapy. She is also eager to continue to expand her skills and has done training in Schema Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).

Angela brings a wealth of life experience with her from her own multicultural background. As a mother of two, Angela understands and relates to the challenging journey of raising children, adjustment to parenthood, parenting and family issues. She is also skilled in treating areas including: depression, anxiety, grief and loss and relationship issues. With more than 10 years’ experience as a Psychologist Angela is comfortable working with a broad range of clients including adults, young people and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities (CALD).

Nicole Wallace BA(Psych), GDipPsych, MPPsych
Psychologist

Nicole is a registered psychologist who works with children, adolescents and adults and their families to provide an empathetic, genuine and mutual understanding of a person’s difficulties, with the view to enhance personal growth and enriching thier relationship with their self and with others. 

Nicole has a Bachelor of Arts Psychology from ACU, and graduate diploma in psychology from UWS and a Masters of Professional Psychology from UWS and is registered Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

Nicole has interests in child development, attachment, pschometric assessment supporting children and adolescents with various mental health and development issues and guiding parents and families with education and skills to best support their child.

Nicole also works with adults helping them with anxiety, depression and works with people with eating disorders of all ages and can provide Family Based therapy (FBT).

Nicole can provide psychosocial assessments, suicide risk assessments, safety planning / crisis management, psychoeducation, and practices within evidence based frameworks including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focus Therapy has done training in Schema Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). 

Belinda Gourley
Psychologist

Belinda is a Registered Psychologist with extensive experience working with preschoolers, school-aged children, adolescents, and their parents/careers and as well as providing a range of group programs to children and youth. She brings valuable knowledge to her practice from working as a School Counsellor/Psychologist across a range of mainstream and special education settings, and as an accredited teacher with a background in Reading Recovery and Learning Support.

Belinda is trained in a range of evidence-based intervention approaches, utilising techniques from CBT, ACT, Solution Focused Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, to work collaboratively with clients to overcome challenges and meet their therapeutic needs and goals. She is committed to empowering children and adolescents to build self-efficacy, improve confidence, embed resilience, and develop life-long skills to support their psychological wellbeing.

Belinda has a particular interest and expertise in the administration of psychological assessments that support the diagnosis of several neurodevelopmental and mental health presentations. Through developing and maintaining a strong therapeutic alliance, she aims to better understand an individual’s unique strengths and any identified difficulties when incorporating psychometric assessment results with other sources of information and providing recommendations for evidence-based support to enable clients to reach their full potential.

Dana Pickens
Speech Pathologist

Dana is a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist (CPSP) and is a member of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA). She has completed a Bachelor of Health Science (majoring in Hearing and Speech) and a Masters of Speech and Language Pathology, both of which were obtained from the University of Sydney.

Dana has experience working with a range of ages from babies to elderly clients, and a range of conditions including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), cerebral palsy, stroke and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). She has also worked with a range of areas including speech, language, literacy and social communication. She has worked in a range of settings including private practice, public hospital and the community.

Dana is passionate about Speech Pathology as she loves how improvements in communication impacts, not only the patient, but also their relationships and connections with friends and loved ones. She collaborates with her clients and their families by considering their insight and priorities, to tailor and personalise therapy goals.

Scott Fisher BSc(ExSci), M(ClinExPhys), AEP, AES, ESSAM
Accredited Exercise Physiologist

Scott founded Empowered Healthcare in 2017 when he wanted to create a bigger impact on the health of his local community. Scott specialises in using exercise to treat lower back pain, diabetes, cardiac rehab as well as exercise in the treatment and management of cancer and other chronic diseases.

Scott has lectured multiple times on Exercise and Diabetes at the University of Technology Sydney. He has run multiple sold out recovery workshops for elite and national representative sporting teams as well as heavily involved in fund raising events for the Cancer Council of NSW.

Since graduating from the University of Wollongong in 2012 with a Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology, which followed a Bachelor of Science (Exercise Science) in 2010, Scott has worked locally within multidisciplinary teams at private hospitals, medical practices and allied health clinics.

With a background in national swimming, surf and pool lifesaving, Scott’s other special interests include injury recovery and rehabilitation.

When he’s not not helping people in the clinic, you’ll find Scott walking the esplande in Cronulla with his wife Lauren with a coffee in his hand or swimming around Shark Island all year round.

Liam Porter
Exercise Physiologist

Liam is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with experience and a passion for both land and water based rehabilitation.

Liam has been with Empowered since 2021, helping our patients with behavioural coaching, health education and physical rehabilitation. He loves tailoring exercise programs and promoting activity to reduce sedentary behaviours and manage chronic conditions.

An expert in injury and disease management including musculoskeletal, neurological, metabolic and cardiopulmonary conditions, sees Liam helping out our vast range of clients with all their health goals.

When he’s not at Empowered, you’ll find Liam on the rolling mats at Brazilian Ju-Jitsu and at Shark Park on the weekends.

Carly Watson
Exercise Physiologist

Carly is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with a passion for improving people’s lives through movement. Movement is medicine!

Carly joins the empowered team with over a decade of experience of guiding people towards their happier and healthier selves. Being able to change people’s lives might sound cliche but this is what Carly enjoys most.

Her background ranges from working with elite athletes, to managing corporate health facilities to clinical exercise physiology. One thing remains the same no matter what environment she’s in- her energy and passion for understanding people and having a positive influence on their lives.

Carly has a special interest in exercise and mental health. She absolutely loves seeing the positive outcomes that can be achieved through movement.

Carly is a strong believer in prescribing the right exercise for you as an individual. Not one size fits all. She practices what she preaches, leading a healthy balanced lifestyle, fueling her body with good nutritious food, maintaining regular movement and making time for her relationships.

Dr Greta Lee
Gastroenterologist MBBS, MMed Clin. Epi., PhD, FRACP

Dr Greta Lee is a consultant Gastroenterologist with a special interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. She graduated from the University of Sydney, trained in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at St George and Sutherland Hospitals, and pursued her interest in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis with an Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellowship in Brisbane.

Dr Lee holds a Masters of Medicine in Clinical Epidemiology with Merit from the University of Sydney. In 2015, Dr Lee was awarded a PhD from the University of NSW; her doctoral thesis explored the immunological mechanisms underlying chronic Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Dr Lee manages all aspects of clinical Gastroenterology. In addition to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, she offers practical management strategies for common gastroenterological problems including reflux, abdominal pain, colorectal cancer screening, iron deficiency, rectal bleeding, constipation, diarrhoea and the irritable bowel syndrome.

She was also privileged to travel to Hungary and Slovakia for the 2000 and 2001 International Ice Hockey World Cup Championship competitions with the Australian Womens Ice Hockey team.

Martial Arts and Boxing

NuActive’s Health Joanne Turner has a third dan black belt in Taekwondo and has competed in multiple state and national competitions. She has been a consultant dietitian to many competetive martial artisits and boxers.
